1 cent Saki – That’s right, this is NOT a misprint

Posted by swobodasays on October 28, 2008

Nori Sushi – 24001 Via Fabricante #903, Mission Viejo, CA 92691

Nori Sushi recently opened up and this is the second time we have been. We really love the ambiance! It is nicely decorated, the middle area has a lovely water element, the music is contemporary Japanese.

We are always greeted and seated promptly. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The food is plentiful and reasonably priced! And right now they have the 1 cent Sake deal going on. This is the standard little bottle not 1 glass, it is the warm saki (I prefer cold), but there is a limit of 3 per table!!

One thing I love about this place is there different and unique rolls. If you are on a carb diet you are going to love this, they have a Lettuce Wrap Roll ($8.50)! It is big and it is yummy! I ordered that for dinner my husband ordered the Sizzling Hot Skillet Chicken Teriyaki ($9.50) comes with rice & salad, I had him order the 3 pc Sashimi ($2.50) side dish for me ;-) He is a picky eater so not only did I have his side dish, I end up eating the Soybeans, Miso Soup and Pickled Cucumbers that is served before dinner. He also ordered a Saporo Beer, and we couldn’t resist, 2 sakes for yes 2 cents! For dessert we had Moochi? Balls ($4.00). It was like a melon ice cream with some kind of thing on the outside. I have no idea exactly what, but it was good.

The only thing about the dinner is the dressing on the salad, it is not the typical dressing, it is
onionish and I didn’t like it. They also didn’t give you any dipping sauces for the sashimi. Other then that this place is great and we will be back.

Our total bill before tip was $35.95, and it was so much food I ended up bring half my wrap home!

Cooking Smooking

Posted by swobodasays on October 24, 2008

Here is some food for Thought only:

My husband did NOT marry me for my cooking skills
It takes practice to get perfect and my family is so picky, I haven’t had a lot of practice
When you offer to make dinner and your husbands says “Don’t Threaten ME!” you may have a problem
You know you have a problem when your husband is out of town and the threat you use on your kids that has the most impact is “If you don’t knock it off I am going to COOK dinner”!

Party Panache while maintaining a healthy

Posted by swobodasays on October 23, 2008

Ok, there are always going to be parties, with drinks and snacks and deserts, OH MY!

How do we maintain a healthy lifestyle and deal with parties. You have a couple choices:

1 – Don’t go to parties (I like to socialize as much as the next person!)
2 – Don’t eat or drink at the party (hhmmm then why even go???)
3 – Go to the party and eat and drink responsibly (my kinda answer)

Interested in #3? I know I am, I want to live a Happy, healthy life, not a boring one.

One way not to gorge at the party is to eat a small healthy meal Before you go to the party. Not a 3-course meal, but a nice salad or bowl of soup will help take the edge off your hunger.

Pick your appetizers carefully, have the veggies & fruit first, keep dips down to a minimum. Have a few pieces of cheese and some crackers, (milk is good for you!).

You wanna drinkypoo, have 1 or 2! not 6 or 7, not only lots of empty calories, they also make you hungry, and you might not feel so great the next day either!!! I have a drink, sip it, and order water with my food. Then have another drink later on.

What about Desert you ask? Have some for goodness sake! Have a small slice of cake, or pie, 2 cookies, small cup of pudding ect. Just don’t go overboard and eat 2 slices pie or 1 BIG slice of cake or 1 dozen cookies!

This is where healthy portions really come in to play. You can have the stuff you like, in moderation. Lets face it, I am not going to give up sweets for life, not gonna happen, probably neither are you. So enjoy the sweet stuff, just do so in moderation.

Why are many coin banks shaped like pigs?

Posted by swobodasays on October 15, 2008

Why are many coin banks shaped like pigs?
Long ago, dishes and cookware in Europe were made of a dense orange clay called “pygg”. When people saved coins in jars made of this clay, the jars became known as “pygg banks.” When an English potter misunderstood the word, he made a bank that resembled a pig. And it caught on.

Don’t Have Things In The House Everyone Can’t Eat

Posted by swobodasays on October 11, 2008

When starting a healthy lifestye it can be hard to break the old snacking habits. It is even harder if you see someone else eating the cookies, candies, and snacks that you are trying to avoid or reduce eating. It is even harder if those things are in your house but “off limits” to some but not all of the household. It is not fair.

If you need to get a child(ren)or anyone in your family into a healthy lifestyle, especially kids, they get a lot of input from you, you should not eat stuff in front of them that you will not allow them to have. No more “do as I say, not as I do”. Remember how you HATED it when your parents said that to you!

Everyone in the house needs to be able to eat what is in the house. No exceptions! If you want to eat something you don’t want your kids to eat, get it at work, or before you go home. How would you like it if your parents came over and ate steak and lobster in front of you and offered you a hamburger? Pretty sucky huh! Now change that to veggies because they thought you needed to lose weight! Even suckier. Kids have feelings people, remember that, you were one once!

DOA – I am being held against my will!

Posted by swobodasays on October 11, 2008

Ok, so here is the deal, in the end, I had to move my dad out of the current facility from his physco girlfriend.

So I got a referral from Alta (GREAT CO) for “A place for Mom” (another great co!). They will give you a list of facilities that meet your needs so you aren’t on the phone ForEver!

I really like one, it was close and more of a “home” atmosphere, but of course my dad was in his “ASS” phase so he while they were waiting for me he is all “I am being held here against my will”. Aauugghhh.

I explained to him again (yes I know but it is aggravating sometimes!) that he was basically being kicked out of his current place and that he needed to move. In the end we went to a like sized facility. He didn’t want the “home” feel, he felt it was too “old homish?!” he is 83 it IS and OLD timers home!

So we took him to visit the one he is in now, and his all like, “I don’t want to move, I want to talk to my lawyer!) aauugghhhh, of course while walking around he runs into a women from the other place and so it was ok afte that!

So we are now at the new place, which is actually nice, in fact my son helped to move him and he is all, “grampa can have my room and I will live here!), oh I don’t think soo.
