Open Letter to American Express
I am writing this letter to let you know how disappointed I am in your recent changes in customer service.
I have been an AMEX customer for over 15 yrs. In that time I have had extremely high Travel & Entertainment balances that I have paid off in FULL at least 3 times.
Over the years you have constantly sent me “Invitations” to become a Platinum Member because of our outstanding history with your company and our credit history. I have received numerous invitations to use the T & E portion of the card, at one time you wanted me to sign up for purchases as low as $100 to go on the T & E (revolving credit line).
Then one day out of the blue we get a letter stating the our Travel and Entertainment Privileges had been revoked. I was annoyed but not to bothered as I hadn’t signed up for the $100 feature and by that time I had stopped using any credit cards unless absolutely necessary. It was still annoying coming aprox 1 week after your last entreaty to get me to sign up for the $100 T & E feature!
Over the years my payments have always been on time and I always try to pay more then the minimum due. We got a call recently grinding us for $37 dollars, I guess I transposed the numbers and paid you $37 less then scheduled, so you had to call and grind me for it? Based on past history???
The last straw came yesterday; we received a call and an e-mail stating you were lowering our credit line based on our “credit” and past history. Really, since my credit score is 747, which is considered EXCELLENT, considering my over 15 yrs of association with your company and never ONCE was I over 30 days past due, you decided to lower my credit line.
Fine, go right ahead, I haven’t been using the card or any card that much lately, but guess what, once I have paid off this card I will NEVER use it again. I understand that in this credit climate you have to be careful. However this is ridiculous, once again the customer with the good credit and payment history is penalized for those without it. If that is the way you chose to treat one of your older and loyal customer so be it.
I will move my credit use to a different card, one where my ACUTAL credit history; credit score and payment history will be taken in to account. One who will treat me like the valued customer I am and not like they are doing me the favor of allowing me to continue to use their card.
