Cheese vs Processed cheese Small cal diff 33 cal/ 2.75 Fg, Big taste diff

I went an bought a “loaf of Colby American Cheese” to replace both Processed and Shredded Cheeses. This replacement not only is better for you it costs less…that is a win/win 🙂

Let’s compare the two shall we:

Processed Cheese

Milk, Whey, Milk Fat, Milk Protein Concentrate, Salt, Calcium Phosphate, Sodium Citrate, Whey Protein Concentrate, Sodium Phosphate, Sorbic Acid, Apocarotenal, Annatto, Enzyme(s), Cheese Culture

Cheese Loaf

Cultured Pasteurized milk, Salt, enzymes, Annatto (color)…

I am trying to find milk from grass fed cows as that way no coloring is needed. If they don’t eat only grass the cheese doesn’t come out the color we “associate” with cheese :)..still a lot more natural then the slices above

Lets compare the nutrition:

……………………Processed Cheese: ………… ……………………..Natural Colby Jack Cheese
Serving Size:……….. 1 Slice (not quite an oz)..round to oz……………. 1 oz
Servings Container:…….. 32.0 ………………………………………… 32
Amount Per Serving………………… (so we can compare 1oz to 1 oz)
Calories………………. 70.0………………..87.5………………………120
Total Fat…………….. 5.0 g……………….6.25g…………………….. 9g
Saturated Fat……………. 3.0 g……………. 3.75g …………………….6g
Trans Fat ……………… 0.0 g………………….0 …………………….0
Cholesterol ……………20.0 mg…………………24mg…………………..25mg
Sodium ……………… 270.0 mg………………..337.5g ……………….. 190mg
Total Carbohydrate………2.0 g…………………. 2.25 …………………..2g
Sugars………………..1.0 g…………………. 1.25 …………………..0
Protein ………………4.0 g………………….. 5g……………………7g
Vitamin A……………..4.0%…………………. ..5%………………………..6%
Calcium …………….. 25.0%……………….. ..30%……………………… 20%

So, since the slice isn’t an ounce I would need about 1.25 slice so you need to add 25% to the processed cheese numbers to make it a true comparison.

I prefer the real cheese, it tastes better, it costs less and it is much better for you.
