Wonderful Weddings..

Weddings are a great time for family gatherings for a Wonderful reason, much better then at a funeral.  Weddings and Baby Showers!

My son worked with me at my old work so we invited a few of our friends from there, we keep up on facebook, but we are all spread out, it was nice to see them again.

We have a LARGE family, and quite a few were able to come, so it was like a mini family reunion.  Of course of the first questions we got was ” Is that cat real?!”  yes she is real and full of cattitude!

Weddings remind us that we should get together with those we love and cherish more often!

Ordering for my family is complicated and embarrasing…

We went to Pick Up Stix the other day and here is my order, my family is SOOO embarrasing:

I need Kung Pau Chicken with Sauce Only _ No veggies – brown rice – yep NO Veggies only chicken and Sauce (husband) I need Orange Chicken and yep you guessed it NO Veggies , only chicken and sauce and upgrade to fried with again with NO veggies or green onions (son).

Then for me, I need a salad, no onions and can I have Tofu instead of Chicken?? They were nice enough to give me tofu but it was fried, next time I will make sure to ask for it non-fried, as I an trying to lose weight and eat health.

The good thing is I find more and more places with Tofu, the bad thing is a lot of times it is fried, it is real tasty but it is still fried.

Take back your time..

It seems that all these convience items, make it so you have more time, but they take a toll on your pocketbook and your health with all the artificial stuff in them.

So take a minute and think, what are you doing with “all that time” they are saving you, really. Are you spending quality time with your family or are you running around dropping off and picking up your kids from other places?

Want some quality time with your family? Then s l o w down and do something together. I totally agree that a sport or hobby is a great thing for a child. However, I only think ONE sport or hobby at a time is good. Between that one sport or hobby and school, they don’t have time for much more.

So, instead of rushing them from school to daycare to sport, to homework and bed, cut out some room, for dinner.
After school and daycare, let them rest, you rest when you come home from work, they need a break too. If they are hungry involve them in making snacks between school and homework. Some quality time picking out what they want to eat.

If you can make dinner a family event, I just got a pasta maker, you can add veggies : spinach, carrots, squash; in the pasta so they eat it and never know, (they will just think it is cool to have a bunch of colors). Make ravioli and let them pick out what they want to put in the middle of it, so they look forward to eating it.

Doing this saves money, is healthy, and creates a great family dynamic and encourages kids to eat well.

If you aren’t really getting anything out of the “time you save” shouldn’t you spend it wisely a different way?

No ones tombstone ever said “I wish I had worked more”, take a deep breath, slow down, try and make regular chores into enjoyable memorable tasks with your family. Make some memories, those are the best gifts you can give yourself and your family.

The Bright Side to a Black Out

We have been having a lot of power outages in our area lately. Quite a pain in the behind!

The other day though, it happened at 5 and wasn’t fixed until almost 9 uugghh.

So what is the “bright” side… yes pun was intended….. well first off I couldn’t cook dinner (OH DARN) so we had pizza and ….. a family game night … so what you say..? My kids are 18 and 21, getting them both together at one time for any “family” time is a daunting task, but with no TV, Computer, Internet, ect…. they had to make do with Jenga and Monopoly good ole’ fashioned family entertainment.

Of course monopoly is NOT condusive to a quiet and family life, not when you are accused of cheating..which I didn’t!!! and once hubby read the rules he had to admit it HA HA HAAA!

It was a nice time, eating pizza and playing games by our battery powered lights.
