I miss my youngest….

but I think him going to Montana has been great for him.  He is making new friends, working more, going out more, learning what it takes to be on his own.

You don’t realize what they don’t know until they call….my son and the roommates haven’t figured out if they have a heater or not??? Yes, we told him, there is NO way you have a house in Montana without heat!  So we sent him some thermal jammies (yea, I am STILL his mommy 😉 and an electric blanket and we told him to contact the manager and have them come over and turn on the pilot light for the heating.

I am also starting another “large” box of goodies to send to him….

Gas is going up for everyone but meeeeeee :)

I love my electric Fiat, I swear it is like driving a Hotwheel……watch out…here I come, what me sail past all the Gas stations, ’cause I don’t need none.

Beep Beep Suckarssss 🙂

I love being able to drive short distances and come back with MORE miles then I started with!  However, long trips with a/c on cut mileage by about 30%.  Still works for me, I was in the Car Pool Lane Today!

Get more Mileage Save Gas Save Money

These may seem like no brainers, but here you go, some where new to me:

I am not sure if running your AC effects Gas Mileage or not, there is conflicting reports, however, I always close the vents on the passenger side of my car for A/C, why cool the empty seat? The air blows better with those vents closed, so you can reduce how cold and how fast the fan blows.

Coast people, take you foot off that pedal and COAST. I used to take the toll roads, they are very hilly, I was able to coast about 10 miles round trip. Makes your gas last longer. Any hilly area is a great place to coast… downhill obviously 🙂

Park your car in the shade, heat causes evaporation, it may not be a lot, but everyday adds up.

Keep your tires filled up and get a reflector for your windshield so your car doesn’t get so hot.

ps this is  a repost from 2013…but then saving money never goes out of style 🙂

Easy and Quick way to reduce your electric and gas usage

Right now it is getting cold at night and early am, and still warming up pretty good in the middle of the day.

When I get up my house is between 66 & 68 degrees, we don’t turn the heater on because I know it is going to be 80 – 90 by midday. If I am cold I put on sweats or a sweater, by doing this, the house stays cooler longer and I don’t have to turn the a/c on at all, or if it gets real hot I might only have to use it for a hour or so.

If I were to heat up my house in the am I would have to turn the a/c sooner and longer in the pm.

Simple & Quick way to use less Gas and Electric if you are in the right temperature zone.

Also if you can run your dishwasher at night, I will load it during the day as I cook and then before I go to bed at night I turn it on when electricity tends to be less per KhW. Then in the am I unload and start over again.

Revisiting MPG extending Tips – with gas on its way up

I posted some money / gas saving tips in the past, but I figured, I would repost with additional tips seeing as the price of GAS just keeps going up, uP, UP!!!!

These may seem like no brainers, so will not be a real big savings, but they add up!

  • Park in the shade!  Gas is a liquid and will evaporate in heat
  • Tint your windows! The cooler it is inside the less you will use your a/c
  • Use the car coolers that that go in your windshield when you park! Keep your car cool
  • Close unused AC vents! If you drive alone alot, turn off all vents except your own..
  • If you live in a hilly area…Coast down hill!  I coast about 5mi @ way to work
  • Check  your tire pressure!  Underinflatted tires use more gas
  • Bike, Walk, Carpool when you can

If anyone has additional tips please feel free add them!

Get your Gas boycott ON

We’ll show you a gas boycott!

This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the “don’t buy gas on a certain day” campaign that was going around last April or May!

It’s worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?

We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn’t continue to “hurt” ourselves by refusing to buy gas.

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you’re probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $3.08 at Arco and Costco for regular unleaded in Salem, Oregon and climbing every week. (try 3.98 in So Cal!)

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 – $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace, not sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can’t just stop buying gas.

But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here’s the idea: For the rest of this year, DON’T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It’s really simple to do! Now, don’t wimp out on me at this point…keep reading and I’ll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) … and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)… and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers . If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it…… THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to10 people. That’s all!

(If you don’t understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to10 people…. Well, let’s face it, you just aren’t a mathematician. But I am so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!

I’ll bet you didn’t think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. Look at what happened in Egypt just recently.

You have only the rights you are willing to fight for!

Be kind, remove all email addresses & use bcc when forwarding; say no to spammers and computer viruses.

Just say no to gas :-)

It seems like gas prices keep going up again. Now if you are like me there is no way I can get to work except by car. I live over 20 miles and 2 freeways away.

However, when I get to work, I try go places that I can walk or ride my bike to. I have an extra bike I brought to work (couldn’t sell it for what it was worth).

So instead of getting in your car for your break, walk or ride. A lot of people giving a little effort can amount to a BIG change.

Not only can we reduce our gas usage, but our polluting of the environment and I am reducing my bUttocks 🙂
