More Laundry savings secrets :)

I recently bought Organic Eco Wool Dryer Balls – 6 Pack – 100% Handmade, Fair Trade, Organic, No Lint – Premium Quality from amazon.  I LOVE them, they are little wooly balls and the help to fluff up your laundry and cut your drying time.

Remember, I dry my Jeans and Towels outside when I can, to almost dry, then I throw them in the dryer, these balls help to make them fluffy and dry a little quicker.

On regular clothes I think I save about 25% on time, with all the laundry that goes on here that adds up!  If I do good clothes I will rip a dryer sheet in half to help with static cling saves money here also.

Also if you wear something for half day, and you didn’t get it dirty or sweaty, either just hang back up in closet or if you MUST wash, then use the spin and rinse cycle.  The less you wash your clothes the longer they last, saving money on clothes, and water and electric bills.

The biggest saver of all, now that it is summer, let the SUN dry your clothes!

Umm…..I am confused, if you are married isn’t it OUR money?

I am not sure about the mine and yours money thing in marriages.  When you get married you are a couple, you SHARE everything, ups, & downs, jobs, births, deaths, ect.

Why is money different?  We have never had separate accounts, all the money goes in to one place, this pays all the bills.  We make the bills together, we pay the bills together.

We make all money decisions together as a couple, the say isn’t dependent on who makes the most money.  It is a joint decision like our bank accounts.  There have been times (like now) that I wasn’t working,  this has never effected how we do things.

There is always the exception, someone who has a spending problem, people who were burnt from a prior marriage, ect….but this seems to be a common thing.

Just saying it is weird to me….normal to others.

More savings tips

long time followers may find some repeats, but I want to give it out to everyone again for those who may have never seen them:

#1 – Loyalty Programs – as per my last post – if you tend to shop somewhere like say Target quite often sign up for what ever loyalty program they have, you are already there, take advantage of anything they want to give you!

#2 – Target Red Card DEBIT – if you do shop at Target, don’t get yourself mired with another credit card, get the Debit Card, works just like your bank debit card except you get 5% off every purchase…this is no brainer for serious Target Shoppers

#3 – Don’t be hooked by “designer/name” brands, there are alternatives out there, I have the simple human trash can, I DON”T by there trashbags, I get the big box of trash bags from Costco, they work in this can, why would I pay more???  I have a Mint that sweeps and mops the floor, also like a Swiffer, I buy generic wipe, also I found that when one side gets dirty, just turn it up side down and use the other side!!  It may take a little time, but you will save big for you wallet

#4 – Use the SUN!  Free energy, buy a Clothes Line…I have a portable dryer that folds up like an umbrella for storage.  I dry Towels, Jeans and my sons T-Shirts in the sun.  Couple of helpful hints, use softner in the clothes you are going to dry on the line, and take them off before they are completely dry.  This will avoid the stiffness that sometimes occurs.  Take down while just a little damp, and throw them in the dryer for 10-15 min, much less energy used, since those items can take over 1 hour to dry.

#5 – Yes your dishwasher has lots of choices/settings but NO you don’t have to use them.  I only use the China/Delicate setting, it is shorter and works great, I also don’t use the heat dry setting.  I will use a regular setting if I have a bunch of items that are really dirty, mostly at holidays.  Save water and electricity.

#6 – Yes your washer/dryer has lots of choices/settings, you don’t have to use them.  Again, I used the lowest one I can to get the best effect, so 99% of the time it is Perm Press which is 44 min with a spin cycle.  Most of the other settings are 60 min or more.  The dryer I use time setting, the “sensor” setting can keep things drying for hours if one item is damp.  I set the timer and then check every 15 and take out anything that is already dry so the other items will be able to dry faster.

This is just a few of my hints….I will keep posting more as time goes by.  Please let me know how they work out for you.

I am not a big believer in “organized” religion…

While I believe in God, I believe religion was made and has been abused for centuries by men. I believe everyone has the right to their beliefs however. So as you know I have been out of work for over a year now, and I am looking for a part-time job.

That doesn’t mean it has been easy, so I got a book, (via paperback swap, where I get a lot of my books, swap for cost of postage) “Your Money Map”.

I start reading and realize it is christian bible based, at first I am like hmm, bunch of hoey! But I will keep reading. One of the first things it wants you to do is deed everything to god, which would be fine, except with my inherent trust of “organized religion”, I can see a church getting a hold of it and trying to take your stuff. I know that probably won’t happen, but remember, I AM entitled to my beliefs. So I skip that part, and I read further along. The book has some very good helpers in it, and I am surprised just how many references to money there are in the bible.

But the reason for this post is because at one point, it states as in all things, stop trying to do it all yourself, give it up to god and believe. Also the lord helps those who help themselves, so don’t expect a lottery win, it takes work and commitment. “He” will take care of your needs, not you wants, you need to know the difference, and you need to tithe, it doesn’t have to be money, it can be your time and experience. (of course this is all boiled down to fit in the post)

Well after crunching my monthly numbers and coming up short, I was Fustrated and just said “F” it, that’s it, I give up. I am leaving it up to the lord.

Now there weren’t any thunderbolts or lightning, I didn’t hear “him” speak to me, I didn’t win the lottery, what I did feel was Relief. An awww moment.

So as you may also know I have been selling jewelry for a while as a hobby and extra money, and I recently got kicked off of ebay for some reason even though I had over 300 A+ reveiws and 100 perfect feedback, so my sales have plummeted. Which is why I am looking for part-time work.

Since I have given it over to the Lord my sales have spiked, out of no where. I am amazed, it could be coincidence, maybe a small spike, but a consistent stream of sales? Oh I think someone is looking out for me. On my end, I am keeping up the quality of the items I sell and taking care of my customers.

Tithing can be an issue, the books says to tithe to your church first and then other things you are interested it. Well I don’t go to church (see above) so I started sending some money to an organization I have given to before Heifer International. Check it out, they give livestock and education to those in need and those in need are expected to pass the gift along to others. I have already been sending money to Feed the Children for years. And I am going to start volunteering my time again to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

So I am just passing the word, I am not a preacher, or a “religious freak”, but I have experienced something I can’t explain, so it is up to you what you believe, but as Carry Underwood sang “Jesus take the wheel” I am going to let someone else drive for a while 🙂

it’s the little things you do that add up to a lot

We take a large glass of water with us to bed every night. Rarely do we ever finish it, I am sure we are not the only ones.

What do you do with the water the next day? I either pour whats left into the animals water bowl, or if that is full, use it in the plants around the house. This might now seem like much, on a daily basis, but on a monthly and yearly basis it is quite a bit.

There are small things like this you can do around your house that will impact your wallet and the earth in a big way.

Subject: A Rapist’s New Trick

Know what money you are carrying. You will see why as you read.

Be sure every woman is aware of this M.O. Share it with your wife and daughters. Know what money you are carrying… This was the first I have heard of a scheme like this….. I wanted to pass it along. Be safe! Something very serious to pay attention to.

Criminals are coming up with craftier, less threatening methods of attack, so we have to be extra cautious.

Read on….

I live in Alexandria , VA , but I often work in Lafayette , LA , staying with friends when I’m there. As you know from America ‘s Most Wanted TV program, as well as the news media, there is a serial killer in the Lafayette area. I just want to let you know about an ‘incident’ that happened to me a few weeks ago, and could have been deadly..

At first I didn’t go to the police or anyone with it because I didn’t realize how serious this encounter was. But since I work in a jail and I told a few people about it, it wasn’t long before I was paraded into Internal Affairs t o tell them my story. It was approximately 5:15 a.m. In Opelousas , La. I had stayed with a friend there and was on my way to work.

I stopped at the Exxon/Blimpie Pie station to get gas. I got $10 gas and a Diet Coke. I took into the store two $5 bills and one $1 bill (just enough to get my stuff). As I pulled away from the store, a man approached my truck from the back side of the store (an unlit area). He was an ‘approachable-looking’ man (clean cut, clean shaven, dressed well, etc..). He walked up to my window and knocked . Since I’m very paranoid and ‘always looking for the rapist or killer,’ I didn’t open the window.

I just asked what he wanted. He raised a $5 bill to my window and said, ‘You dropped this.’ Since I knew I had gone into the store with a certain amount of money, I knew I didn’t drop it.

When I told him it wasn’t mine, he began hitting the window and do or, screaming at me to open my door, and insisting that I had dropped the money! At that point, I just drove away as fast as I could..

After talking to the Internal Affairs Department and describing the man I saw, and the way he escalated from calm and polite to angry and volatile…it was determined that I could have possibly encountered the serial killer myself.

Up to this point, it had been unclear as to how he had gained access to his victims, since there has been no evidence of forced entry into victim’s homes, cars, etc. And t he fact that he has been attacking in the daytime, when women are less likely to have their guard up, means he is pretty BOLD.

So think about it….what gesture is nicer than returning money to someone that dropped it?????

How many times would you have opened your window (or door) to get your money and say thank you…. Because if the person is kind enough to return something to you, then he can’t really be a threat….can he????

Please be cautious! This might not have been the serial killer…. But any one that gets that angry over someone not accepting money from them can’t have honorable intentions. The most important thing to note is that his reaction was NOT WHAT I EXPECTED! A total surprise! But what might have happened if I had opened my door? I shudder to think!

Forward this to everyone you know….maybe they can be as fortunate as I was!
